Restaurant Paintings – Lignum Vitae

Lignum Vitae

The last of, but by no means least of the restaurant series of paintings is now completed. The Lignum Vitae, I must admit, was not as much fun for me to paint as the other 5 paintings in the series. I really struggled to achieve accuracy in hues for this one. Blending varying values of violet, blues and purple was a bit tricky for me working in acrylic which, dries rather quickly.

Choosing to do these paintings in acrylic was definitely a challenge, however, it only confirmed what I already knew in my heart. . .I really do prefer to work with oils. It’s a much more forgiving medium to work with. I did learn a lot working with acrylics though.

Restaurant Paintings – Jamaican Sunset

I’ve placed the last brush stroke and signed the Jamaican Sunset painting. It’s finished whether it wants to be finished or not. I think I’m content with the end results of this one as well. The size format was a bit ackward to work with but if you’d like to see the end results it’s in the studio section. Now on to completing the Lignum Vitae.

Today I completed the second in the restaurant series paintings. I’m really happy with the results considering working in acrylics is not my forté. Enter the studio to see the end results.

I’ll spend the next few days working on the sunset and later, the Lignum. I’m looking forward to getting this lot of paintings done. I’ve spent many hours on them so far.

Check out my friend Uchay’s Article regarding some of his recent work. Uchay’s work has taken on a new face lately. His work has become, in his own words, “much more conceptual”.

The light above the black hole

I reached a milestone today. I was able to add the tribute I made to my son on my blog. I decided to get away from all the black layout I had deemed appropriate for the layout and the topic in previous years. I don’t see so much blackness now. I think I’m finally starting to see some light in that black hole I’ve been in since his death.

My First Bonanza at Bonanzle

I had my first art sale on my Bonanzle web site on February 19, 2009. I was a bit confused at first, trying to figure out how to run a ‘bonanza’. The trickiest part was trying to use the online chat service to talk to people as they entered my store. It got confusing especially when more than one person entered my booth,  but eventually I figured things out. I have only five paintings in my booth right now and for 3 hours they were on sale for 20% off. Unfortunately, nothing sold but I know a lot of people have been looking at my work. Any exposure is good exposure. I plan to run another bonanza in one month’s time as Bonanzle only permits on bonanza a month. Hopefully I’ll be able to make a sale from my booth then. In the meantime, I’m working on getting myself situated so I can paint again and add more paintings to my booth.

Joan of Art Store Opening

I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to market my work online and one of the ways I’ve chosen to do so is by setting up various online stores. The exposure would be good and who knows, I might even make a sale on one of my paintings. Stop in at my Bonanzle Booth, take a look and let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions as to how I might make any improvements.
